Kimley-Horn Traffic Study

In February, our professional partners Kimley-Horn conducted a traffic study of our roadways. We now have the results in a format that is shareable to you. Below is a link to the full report, followed by a summary of conclusions and recommendations.

Conclusions and Recommendations
From the collected data, field review, and review of the Pedestrian Pathway plans provided by WJK, Ltd.; the following conclusions and recommendations were made:

A speeding issue, as defined by SCDOT, was not observed from the six data points counted by Marr Traffic Data Collection along Long Cove Drive or Turnbridge Drive. Therefore, speed humps/tables are not recommended to be installed along Long Cove Drive or Turnbridge Drive.

It is recommended to continue the educational programs for pedestrians and bicyclist.

In the educational program it is recommended to:
1. Continue to talk about the appropriate side of street to walk on and which side to ride a bike

2. Educate drivers about when to and when not to pass a pedestrian/bicyclist

3. Educate pedestrians and bicyclists on the importance of wearing bright colors, reflective, and/or illuminated clothing/gear during dark conditions.

4. Educate drivers on the importance of obeying the posted speed limit

It is recommended to implement the Off-Road Trail System and to potentially add a second phase of the Off-Road Trail System to go around Long Cove Drive. The Off-Road Trail system is recommended to be a minimum of 8’ wide to accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.

The On-Road Trail System is not recommended.

Converting Long Cove Drive or Turnbridge Drive to one-way is not recommended.
