2018 Recap
Long Cove Club, in partnership with Darius Rucker and the University of South Carolina, hosted the 7th annual Darius Rucker Intercollegiate Golf Tournament presented by The Kroger Co. and Reynolds Consumer Products. The tournament was held March 2-4, 2018, at Long Cove Club’s nationally acclaimed golf course on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Top teams from around the country traveled to the island to compete for the title.
No. 2 Alabama women’s golf carded a final-round 289 (+5) Sunday at Long Cove Club to earn a wire-to-wire victory at the 2018 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.
The Crimson Tide, who totaled a 54-hole mark of 866 (+14), finished atop the leaderboard at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate for the third-straight year. Alabama boasts five victories in the tournament’s seven years of existence.
“You don’t find a better test of golf than this,” Alabama women’s golf coach Mic Potter said. “Good players play good on good courses. You rarely see crowds like this at college golf events, and it was great.”
Third-ranked Arkansas (874, +22) earned runner-up honors, while Wake Forest (878, +26), No. 5 Duke (879, +27) and No. 13 Northwestern (886, +24) rounded out the top five.
Razorback junior Maria Fassi captured the individual title after shooting a 2-under 69 in the final round. She headed to No. 18 with a one-shot lead over Alabama’s Lauren Stephenson (2nd, -1) before tallying a birdie on the hole to secure a two-stroke victory with a three-round score of 210 (-3).
“This is by far my favorite course, and I just love coming here.” Fassi said. “Lauren made me play my very best golf, and it was a battle out there.”
